Richard visits ECG screening event

At the beginning of March Richard visited an ECG screening event held at Longbridge Methodist Church.

The event was held in memory of Alison Linforth, who died on her first day at Cadbury Sixth Form College in September 2003 aged just 16. It is thought her death was caused by a heart condition called Long QT Syndrome.

Since her death, her parents John and Eve Linforth have been actively involved in promoting and raising funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). They organised this event with the West Midlands ECG Testing Group and CRY to offer free ECG tests to 14 to 35 year olds and raise awareness of undiagnosed heart conditions.

Attending the event, Richard said:

‘This is a really important issue. Many young people die suddenly from heart conditions that have gone undiagnosed – including Alison who was one of my constituents. Screening programmes, such as this, help to raise awareness, reduce anxiety and ultimately save lives. I am pleased to have been able to attend today and show my support for the work that John and Eve are doing. They have put a huge amount of hard work into organising this event, but have told me that it is all worth while if it just helps to save one young life – they are to be congratulated.’
