Christmas lights - December 2007
A couple of weeks ago, Northfield Town Centre Partnership hosted the annual switch-on of the Christmas Lights in Northfield High Street. This year, the event was bigger and better than ever. Activities taking place throughout the day included a “Find the Reindeer” competition, with Rudolf and eight mysterious friends hidden in shops and other buildings such as banks and play centres. This will run until 21st December with a weekly free prize draw with 27 prizes each week. There was also a European food and gift market on the High Street, selling everything from cheese, to handbags to sausages. And on top of that there was a schools’ Christmas carol competition. It was won by Trescott Primary school, with Green Meadow Primary, Reaside Junior and Bellfield Junior hot on their heels as runners up.
The day was another example of the confidence that is coming back to shopping area in Northfield and credit is due to all those who have worked so hard to make the Town Centre Partnership a success. In 2008 it is important that Birmingham Council’s long promised environmental enhancements to the area go ahead with the level of investment needed to make a real difference.
