Northfield MP welcomes news of hospital go-ahead: April 2006
Commenting today on the announcement that the project to create a new ‘super’ hospital facility on the site of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston has been given the go-ahead, Mr Burden, Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield said:
“This is really excellent news, and something which will really benefit my constituents and the entire community in South Birmingham. Along with the other Labour MPs in the area, I have long campaigned for new facilities to serve the healthcare needs of this area, and I am pleased that such large scale investment has been given the go-ahead.
“This is not only a project to build a new hospital, but to also regenerate a large part of South Birmingham. The collapse of Rover last year has hit the community hard, and coming on the
anniversary of the closure of Longbridge, this is especially good news. This will bring new jobs to the area and stimulate the local economy. It is a very welcome announcement on many levels”.
