International Development Committee
Richard was a member of the International Development Select Committee in the 2005 Parliament (membership of committees in the new Parliament is currently being organised).
The International Development Committee (IDC) is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department for International Development and its associated public bodies. The Committee also takes an interest in the policies and procedures of the multilateral agencies and non-government organisations to which DFID contributes.
The website for the Committee is www.parliament.uk/indcom where you can find up-to-date information on current inquiries.
"Since 1997 the UK has transformed into a world leader in the international development community. We have taken a lead role on a range of initiatives – from the Millennium Development Goals to cancelling the debt of some of the world’s poorest countries.
"We have a record to be proud of – but there is still so much more to do. I see that regularly through my experience as a member of the House of Commons International Development Committee. That’s why it is so important that we keep up the pressure for action to tackle global poverty. We must both highlight our achievements and push the international development agenda forward."
