Keep Cadbury Independent -

I am taking up the campaign to keep Cadbury independent with other West Midlands MPs and Unite the union.

Cadbury is a very successful company that has achieved year-on-year growth. In my view, there is no reason why it should be subject to a hostile takeover at all.

The company is also part of the fabric of Birmingham. It provides important, high-value jobs well beyond the production process itself.

As someone with an interest in international development, I am also aware of the work Cadbury has been doing to promote fair trade products. Keeping that commitment in place has an importance which goes beyond Birmingham and even the UK.

I cannot see how the Kraft bid is in the interests of the company, its employees or the wider community and I will be continuing to campaign to keep Cadbury independent.
