Representing you in Parliament

Westminster banner

As well as working locally in Birmingham, a key part of my job as your MP is to represent you in Parliament. Alongside my duties dealing with national and international issues this involves taking up important local issues in Parliament and directly with government ministers - everything from housing to health care, from crime to climate change. You can see some of the things I have been saying in Parliament, questions I have been asking and parliamentary motions I have signed by clicking on speeches & questions below and read more about the issues I have taken up on behalf of constituents by clicking on policy issues.

In Parliament I also chair the watchdog commitee for the West Midlands. It keeps an eye on the government in the region and helps the West Midlands to punch its weight at Westminster. I have also been appointed by the House of Commons to its International Development Committee which scrutinises the work of DFID and looks at issues like world poverty, HIV/AIDS and climate change.

I also chair three all party parliamentary groups - one looking at the UK motor industry, one promoting peace in the Middle East and a third on electoral reform.
