Unite for Jobs Rally (15 May 2009)

Tomorrow (Saturday 16th May) I will be joining thousands of workers from across the UK in the march for jobs being organised by Unite the Union.

These are tough times right across the world including here in Birmingham. I know local people are worried about their jobs; about what the future holds for them and their families.

It is right that the Labour government is taking action to provide real help now – to give immediate help to those that lose their jobs and to invest in the jobs of the future.

Jobs must come first and we must do all we can to keep people in work. That is why I am proud to be marching for jobs here in Birmingham tomorrow and why I will be pushing for measures to keep people in work and off the dole so that we can get through this economic downturn with our jobs and talents in tact. So that everyone gets a fair deal.

If you would like to join the march it would be great to see you. We will be meeting at 11am in Edgbaston at the junction of Hagley Road and Highfield Road and the march will culminate in a rally in Centenary Square.
